Descendants of Abraham Marlet

Recently, a request was made for a document pertaining to the descendants of Abraham Marlet which was written by David Rorabacher.

The original version of this article was published in the “Malott, Marlatt, Mellott Past and Present” Newsletter (Vol. 2, No. 4 (October, 1996).  In that document a common mistake was made of assuming that Gideon’s son Abraham had died before about 1700 and that it was his son, Abraham, Jr., who then appears in New Jersey records and authored his will in 1714.

Subsequently, a woman by the name of Phyllis Ryerse checked the entire original will in New Jersey which made it clear that the author of the 1714 will was the original Abraham.

Since there are no later records for Abraham, Jr., we assume he must have died young.

David has subsequently rewritten the article with the understanding that the original Abraham remarried in about 1703 and had additional children by his second wife, Elizabeth.  Unfortunately, by that time, the Malott Newsletter was no longer functioning, so he was unable to give broad exposure to the revised version until now.

Here is the revised document available here by permission from David.
